Tractor-trailer crash in Fairfax County caused major backup on EB I-66

The crash caused major delays during Friday's morning commute.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — All lanes are back open on eastbound Interstate 66 following a tractor-trailer crash in Fairfax County Friday morning. The crash caused major delays for Friday morning's commute.

Virginia State Police said the crash on I-66 near Virginia Route 286 (Exit 55) happened just before 4:30 a.m. Investigators say the tractor trailer collided with a passenger vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the tractor trailer to overturn.

Virginia State Police reported that one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, but did not say how serious the injuries were, or whether the person was in the tractor trailer or the passenger vehicle.

The truck was loaded with meats, cheese, vegetables and fruits, according to VSP.

All lanes were back open, and traffic was returning to normal by 7 a.m. Friday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
