FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — The northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway exit ramp to I-495 north and the Spout Run Parkway in Fairfax County will be closed for another two weeks, the National Park Service said Friday.
The construction project will reopen the ramp on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. The closure began Thursday morning.
People traveling northbound toward Maryland from Northern Virginia can exit at Route 123 and then follow detour signs that would bring drivers back to I-495.
The closure is part of the Federal Highway Administration's $161 million contract to spruce up a section of the George Memorial Parkway. That project is expected to take until Nov. 2025 to be finished.
However, the National Park Service added that the schedule could change if the weather gets icy or messy.
"Inclement weather could shift the reversible lane schedule or close the parkway," the National Park Service said on Thursday. "Please be aware of the following and plan accordingly. The northern section of the parkway."
