Tractor-trailer crash slows down eastbound traffic on Beltway in Montgomery County

Delays are building on the inner loop of I-495. Here's what we know.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Drivers should expect delays on the inner loop of the Beltway in Montgomery County due to a jackknifed tractor trailer crash.

The crash was first reported around 6:15 a.m. on I-495 eastbound before Exit 34 in Bethesda. The crash caused a diesel fuel spill on the road and a lengthy closure is expected so crews can safely clean it up. 

As of 9 a.m., traffic officials report traffic is getting by the scene, using one left lane. One right lane and one exit ramp are still blocked.

Inner loop delays begin near the I-270 Spur. It is not clear when all lanes will be back open to traffic. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes if possible. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. There are no reports of injuries as a result of the jackknifed tractor trailer. Additional details have not yet been made public. Stay with WUSA9 for the latest updates as they come into our newsroom.
