Crash that caused standstill traffic clears on I-270

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Commuters heading into D.C. may have been stuck in traffic Wednesday morning after a crash on I-270 in Montgomery County shut down all southbound lanes. 

Officials say the crash happened just before Exit 18 to MD-121 and that delays begin near MD-80. All southbound travel lanes have reopened as of 10 a.m., and the incident is contained to the right shoulder. The crash cleared a short time later. 

Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination officials urged anyone stuck in the traffic to follow police direction.

More than one vehicle was involved, and at least one person is injured. Officials have not said how many vehicles or people were involved. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
