DC High Heel Race 2022: Here's everything you need to know about road closures, parking

The annual High Reel Race will bring fun, heels, and street closures. Riders and commuters are encouraged to find alternate routes ahead of this event.

WASHINGTON — Drivers in D.C. may see more traffic in the Northwest as the 35th High Heel Race will cause a portion of the roadway to be closed Tuesday.

DC Police are encouraging drivers to allow extra time driving through the city if they are planning to reach their destination. 

The High Heel Race is a D.C. tradition that has continued to make a statement since the 1980s. The 35th Annual 17th Street High Heel Race will take off Tuesday evening as the community members race down on the historic 17th Street Northwest.

Road Closures/Parking Restrictions

According to DC Police, the following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.:

  • 17th Street from New Hampshire Avenue to O Street, NW
  • R Street from 16th Street to New Hampshire Avenue, NW
  • Corcoran Street from 16th Street to New Hampshire Avenue, NW
  • Q Street from 16th Street to 18th Street, NW
  • Church Street from 16th Street and 18th Street, NW
  • P Street from 16th Street to 18th Street, NW

The below streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.:

  • 17th Street from New Hampshire Avenue to O Street, NW
  • Riggs Place from 16th Street to 17th Street, NW
  • R Street from 16th Street to New Hampshire Avenue, NW
  • Corcoran Street from 16th Street to New Hampshire Avenue, NW
  • Q Street from 16th Street to 18th Street, NW
  • Church Street from 16th Street and 18th Street, NW

The below street will be intermittently closed to vehicle from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • P Street from 16th Street to 18th Street, NW

DC Police said road closures and parking restrictions could change depending on circumstances.
