Driver airlifted to hospital after crash on I-70 at Linganore Road

The cause of the crash is still under investigation

FREDERICK, Md. — Two people have been hospitalized after a serious crash on I-70 in Frederick County, Maryland Tuesday morning. The crash involved several cars, two of which rolled over, according to first responders.

Police and firefighters were first called to the crash scene in the westbound I-70 at Linganore Road around 7 a.m. One person involved in the crash was airlifted by helicopter to a trauma center for treatment of their injuries. That person's current condition is not known. Another person was also taken to the hospital by ground ambulance. The severity of their injuries is not known. 

Westbound lanes of I-70 around the crash scene were closed for hours for the crash investigation. All lanes were reopened to traffic by 9:20 a.m. 

Police have not said what led up to the crash.

This is the second major crash and cleanup on I-70 during the Tuesday morning commute. Police and firefighters were also on the scene of a tractor-trailer crash in the eastbound lanes. The 18-wheeler was hauling beer when it rolled over on the highway and spilled cases of beer.
