FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A 61-year-old woman is dead after a multi-car, head-on crash on Fairfax County Parkway Monday morning.
Fairfax County Police officers responded to the crash near Burke Centre Parkway and Ox Road just before 7 a.m. The initial investigation found that the driver of a 2013 Honda Civic was driving north on the Parkway when she lost control of her car, crossed over the grass median and hit a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek driving southbound. Then a 2013 Chevrolet Van crashed into the Subaru.
The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene and the Subaru driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. That driver is expected to survive their injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Van stayed on scene.
The driver of the Civic has been identified by police as Elizabeth Wallgren of Alexandria, Virginia.
Detectives with the county's Crash Reconstruction Unit were on the scene of the crash conducting their investigation. Roads in the area were closed while the investigation into what led to the crash was underway.
The crash investigation continues, but preliminarily detectives do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. Police said Wallgreen's death marks the 18th non-pedestrian fatality in Fairfax County in 2021; there were 10 deaths in 2020.
