Fiery crash leaves one dead, multiple injured on I-270 Friday morning

One dead and multiple injured following Friday morning crash near Rockledge Dr and Old Georgetown Rd.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a two-vehicle collision at 4:15 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames with one person trapped. That person was declared deceased.

Four other patients were transported, two with serious injuries.

The Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC) says the incident has since cleared, and all lanes have reopened. Some delays continue but they are dissipating.

Authorities continue investigating the crash, but they haven't released information on what may have caused it.

The name of the person who died has not been released.
