CHANTILLY, Va. — After a 3-year-old was hit by a truck and killed in Chantilly, Virginia on Saturday, Fairfax County Police have assigned a unit to investigate the deadly crash.

The truck driver stayed at the scene of the deadly crash Saturday afternoon on the 4200 block Airline Parkway, a residential area in Chantilly, according to Fairfax County Police.

Officers first learned about the crash at 3:48 p.m., they say the truck was carrying construction supplies.

"The child was declared deceased on scene," police said. " ... Our Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this tragic incident."

We spoke with family during a vigil held for the child, who has since been identified as Hugo Diaz. They told us Hugo was the youngest of four boys.

Hugo came to the United States with his family about four months ago from Honduras. The family told us they are absolutely devastated by this loss.

Police say, Hugo was hit right outside of his home and got caught in the tires of the truck. According to a preliminary report, Hugo was in driveway riding his tricycle. He rode into the street, as the driver of the truck was coming down the road.

The driver of a Ford F-450 hit Hugo. Police have said that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. This crash remains an active investigation.

A GoFundMe has been created in Hugo's honor to help with funeral costs. If you would like to donate click here
