Man dies in hospital after DC e-bike collision

Two DC Bike Share e-bikes collided, causing the man to fall and hit his head, police said.

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a collision between two electric bikes in Northwest D.C. last month. Michael Goldstone died at the hospital on Tuesday, April 2, nearly a week after the crash happened.

DC Police announced Goldstone's death on Thursday. 

According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened around 11 p.m. on March 27. Police say a Goldstone was riding an e-bike westbound in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest. Goldstone was riding ahead of a woman, who was also on an e-bike. Goldstone slowed down near the intersection of 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, and the woman collided with him.

The crash caused Goldstone to fall off his bike and hit his head. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries following the collision, and later passed away.

According to the most recent data from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, e-scooter and e-bike injuries and death jumped 22% in 2022.
