Driver dead after three-vehicle crash on westbound US 50

Maryland State Police is investigating the fatal collision and have closed lanes in the area.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A person is dead after a collision involving three cars on westbound US Route 50 Friday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

The fatal crash shut down all lanes of westbound US 50 near Exit 8 for Maryland Route 704, Maryland State Highway Administration tweeted.

MSP said a car was trying to access the ramp onto MD 704 when they were struck from behind. The driver of that car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver has not been released. Additional details on the crash are forthcoming.

Drivers were asked to seek an alternate route to avoid lane closures and traffic backup.
