PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A tragic two-car crash early Friday morning has left one man dead and caused significant traffic disruptions in the Fort Washington area.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department (PGCPD), officers responded to the collision just after midnight at the intersection of Old Fort Road and Indian Head Highway. Once there, they discovered a severe crash involving two vehicles.

One driver, only identified as a man, was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His identity has not yet been released.

The second vehicle's driver and three passengers were also taken to an area hospital with injuries. Their conditions are reported to be stable.

Investigators are actively working to determine the cause of the crash. They urge anyone with information to contact them via their website or submit tips using the P3 Tips app.

The collision has caused significant traffic delays. As of 3:45 a.m., the northbound lanes of Indian Head Highway between Fort Washington Road and Old Fort Road remain closed. Authorities are directing traffic, and drivers are advised to use alternative routes and follow police instructions.

Suggested Detours:

  1. Livingston Road: Use Livingston Road as a north-south route parallel to Indian Head Highway. It connects to several key local roads and can help bypass the closure.
  2. Allentown Road: Travel east on Fort Washington Road to Allentown Road, which can connect to MD-5 (Branch Avenue) for northbound travel.
  3. Oxon Hill Road: Head east via Fort Washington Road to reach Oxon Hill Road, which leads to the Beltway (I-495) for further connections.
  4. Kirby Hill Road: Drivers can take Kirby Hill Road as a local detour to access neighborhoods and return to Indian Head Highway north of the closure.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
