Road closures in place for swearing in of DC leadership

Mayor Muriel Bowser will be sworn in for her third term and Brian Schwalb will be sworn in as DC's new Attorney General.

WASHINGTON — Swearing in ceremonies in D.C. will close some roads in the District on Monday. 

Mayor Muriel Bowser will be sworn in for her third term and Brian Schwalb will be sworn in as DC's new Attorney General. Six new DC Council members and four new members of the Board of Education will be sworn in as well. 

Here's what the ceremonies mean for drivers in the area.

The following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking on Monday, January 2, 2023, from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.:

  • East curb lane of 9th Street from M Street to Mount Vernon Place, NW
  • West curb lane of 7th Street from M Street to Mount Vernon Place, NW
  • L Street from 7th Street to 9th Street, NW
  • North curb lane of K Street from 9th Street to 10th Street, NW
  • North curb lane of K Street from 6th Street to 7th Street, NW

The following street will be closed to vehicle traffic on Monday, January 2, 2023, from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

  • L Street from 7th Street to 9th Street, NW

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

The public should expect parking restrictions along the street and should be guided by the posted emergency no parking signage. All vehicles that are parked in violation of the emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed.
