MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A crash involving five vehicles caused major delays in the area of southbound Interstate 270 Wednesday morning, according to Montgomery County Public Information Officer Pete Piringer.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. in the area of southbound I-270 between Maryland Route 109 and Route 121. The incident was just south of a truck weigh station, Piringer said.
As of 6:30 a.m., some cars were blocked on the roadway. The majority of the left lanes are shut down due to the crash. Only one right and right shoulder is open for traffic to get by the crash scene. The roadway has since reopened.
SKY9 was at the scene overlooking the crash and it appeared that there was a 2-mile backup.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
It is unclear if there were any reported injuries.
Crews were at the scene working to clear the roadway. Police were also investigating.
