Major crash shuts down Buckeystown Pike in Frederick

Drivers should avoid the area during the crash investigation

FREDERICK, Md. — A crash has shut down both lanes of Buckeystown Pike in Frederick, Maryland, Thursday morning. Drivers in the area should expect heavy police presence and the area and use alternate routes if possible.

Todd Wivell, a spokesperson for the Frederick County Sheriff's Office announced the closure of both lanes of Bukeystown Pike, near Marcies Choice Lane, around 7 a.m. It is not clear when the road will be back open to traffic, but Wivell said the road would be shut down for "quite some time." 

Not many details are known about the crash itself. Sky9 was over the crash scene Friday. There appeared to be three vehicles involved. Details about the cause of the crash, number of injuries and the severity of those injuries have not yet been made public.

Police continue to investigate. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and anticipate delays until the crash scene is cleared.
