GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A truck caught on fire Wednesday morning in Gaithersburg, Md. after live electric wires fell on top of it, according to Montgomery County Public Information Officer Pete Piringer.
The incident happened on West Diamond Avenue and Muddy Branch Road around 7 a.m.
Live wires in the area fell on the road and under and on top of the truck causing it to engulf in flames, Piringer said. The occupants in the car were able to get out and there are no reported injuries.
Montgomery County Fire and Emergency crews were able to extinguish the flames and Pepco controlled the power lines.
At this time, it is unknown what brought down the wires.
As of 8 a.m., there is a power outage in the area. West Diamond Avenue and Muddy Branch Road are closed to traffic. Some lanes are also blocked in the area of Diamond Avenue near Perry Parkway coming from Interstate 270. Officials said traffic lights are out at Bureau Drive and West Diamond Avenue.
