Crash involving school bus shuts down lanes on the Beltway

No kids were on board at the time of the crash.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A crash involving a school bus shut down some lanes on the Capital Beltway on Monday. No kids were on board at the time.

Around 2:50 p.m., a driver in a truck rear-ended the bus and became trapped on the highway, according to Maryland State Police.

The driver of the truck was extricated by a Maryland State Trooper, the police department said. There's no word on his condition.

All lanes were blocked on the inner loop at MD-450/Annapolis Road. Traffic was only getting by on the shoulder before lanes started to reopen.

The inner loop was backed up for about six miles. The outer loop, which was closed but since reopened, had delays going back four miles.

No other details have been released.
