All southbound lanes closed on I-95 near Exit 166B due to crash

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — All southbound lanes are closed on I-95 Fairfax County Parkway near exit 166B due to an accident involving a stolen vehicle, according to Virginia's Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Virginia State Police (VSP).

As of 9:30 a.m., VDOT has reported that backups are up to mile-long and that the Express Lanes have been reversed early to accommodate southbound traffic. Express lanes will remain southbound until around 11:30 a.m., VDOT said.

According to VSP, officers tried to initiate a traffic stop on the stolen Nissan that was driving west on Interstate 495 at around 8 a.m. The driver, who police described as an adult male,  refused to stop and drove onto the southbound lanes of I-95--at which point a pursuit ensued, police said.

As the vehicle continued traveling south, the driver lost control and struck a tanker truck before sliding across the southbound lanes and eventually striking the Jersey median wall, police said.

The driver was flown to INOVA Fairfax hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, police said.
