LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- A multi-vehicle crash involving nine vehicles has shut down Rt. 198 in Laurel, police say.
It happened at the intersection of Rt. 198 and Rt. 197 (Laurel Fort Meade Road and Laurel Bowie Road) at 8:30 a.m., police say. One vehicle overturned and 5 people were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say a red car (pictured below) was traveling east on Rt. 198 and as it turned right onto Rt. 197, clipped a black SUV. Both cars overturned, causing a chain reaction crash involving seven more vehicles.
Most other vehicles were not seriously involved in the accident, and occupants were out of their cars and walking around when EMS arrived on scene.
