WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A crash involving a tractor-trailer in Woodbridge and 10 other vehicles, sent four people to the hospital on Tuesday morning and damaged a condominium.
Crash investigators responded to the intersection of Gordon Blvd and Riverview Lane at 8:16 a.m. for a multi-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Mercedes tried to make a left turn onto Gordon Blvd when they did not have the right-of-way. The Mercedes crossed in front of a heavy duty tractor-trailer and was T-boned as a result.
This initial crash caused the Mercedes to rotate and hit two other vehicles at the intersection. The driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of the truck and began driving into oncoming traffic. The driver then hit two more vehicles.
The truck then rolled down an embankment and into the parking lot of a residential complex. There, the truck struck more vehicles, before hitting one of the condo buildings in the complex.
Matt Smolsky, assistant fire chief for Prince William County Fire and Rescue, said a total of six people were involved in the crash, four of which were taken to the hospital.
"Four drivers involved in the incident, including the initial driver of the Mercedes were treated at area hospitals for serious injuries," Prince William County Police said on Tuesday. "An additional driver was assessed at the scene ... The driver of the Freightliner truck was not injured."
In total, 11 vehicles, including five parked cars were damaged in the crash. The building sustained moderate damage. As a result, Smolsky said several condo residents were displaced, but no residents inside were hurt. A building official is evaluating the extent of the damage to the complex.
Charges in this investigation are pending.
