GREENBELT, Md. — NASA wants you to look up to the sky Saturday night as the space agency celebrates 'International Observe The Moon Night.' The annual observance encourages people to gaze at the moon, learn more about lunar science and astrology.
NASA is hosting a moon observation event at the Goddard Visitor Center in Greenbelt, MD Saturday from 6 p.m-9 p.m. Admission is free and no registration is needed. Activities include games, moon cookies a wind tunnel and more.
International Observe the Moon Night happens every year in September or October, when the Moon is around the first quarter. NASA officials said it's a great phase for evening observing. Last year, almost a million people participated in 123 countries and all 7 continents. This year, NASA is celebrating 15 years of the program.
There are several ways to participate including looking up at the sky at night, using a telescope or binoculars or watch NASA's live stream of the event.
