WASHINGTON — Right where the Potomac meets the Anacostia River, students are seeing first hand the diversity of this important watershed and why we all need to do our part to protect it.
The Potomac River Environmental Education Program engages students with curriculum-based exploration of D.C.'s rivers.
"What we'll be doing throughout the day is we'll be going over this water quality investigation board," explains Ochae Bynum, one of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation educators.
The trip started with students asking questions about the Bay and its watershed, and ended with immeasurable knowledge gained.
"It's a chance to get out of the classroom, get into an actual environment," says Baynum. "And actually see what they have an impact on and learn about the water."
This is just one of many educational programs offered through the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. They also have professional learning opportunities for teachers and student leadership programs. Over the last 50 years, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation has served more than 1.5 million participants.
The program is offered for grades 4 and above. To request a student field trip program, just click here.
