Earth Day Kids: How you can celebrate the environment with WUSA9 at Westfield Montgomery Mall

Westfield Montgomery Mall has planned a special day for families on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day.

BETHESDA, Md. — WUSA9 is excited about our next Environment Matters event on Saturday for Earth Day.

We'll be at Earth Day Fairfax at the Sully Historic Site in Chantilly from 10 to 4, and we'll also have a crew at Earth Day Kids at Westfield Montgomery Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To kick things off, Mad Science will be doing incredible experiments everyone of all ages will find fascinating. From literally blowing up balloons, to learning how chemicals can change color and even safely playing with a little fire.

“All that cool stuff that kids are into and really the goal is just to expose them to all the different things that science is and kind of give them,” explains Tony Smith of Mad Science. “That exposure so they’re really excited and engaged at an early day.”

Mad Science has been a longtime partner of Westfield Montgomery Mall and is no stranger to hosting fun events at the mall. They also put on summer camps, after school programs and assemblies. They were even rated the #1 birthday party entertainer by Washington Parent.

From the left side of the brain, to the right. Kids will also have a chance to tap into their artistic side with Creative Outlets. A non profit incorporating art and wellness. While there will be a pop up location down in center court with all of the other Earth Day action, they also have a permanent location upstairs in the mall.

“We’re super excited to be a part of this event for kids. We’re excited for them to come learn about how recycled materials can be used in art,” says Anjali Wells, the President of Creative Outlets. “We’ll do a couple activities that utilize recycled materials and just have a great time playing with some art.”

The fun gets underway at 10 a.m. with the Mad Science show.

Then at 11 a.m. Kaitlyn McGrath and Makayla Lucero and I will do a presentation on all things weather. How they forecast and what it’s like to be a Meteorologist.

Starting at 12 p.m. you can join some other members of the WUSA9 team for a meet and greet. Casey Nolen, Abby Llorico, Adam Longo, and Randi Ayala will all be out there.

You can also join Topper Shutt, Annie Yu, Matthew Torres, Matt Gregory and Marcella Robertson out at Earth Day Fairfax. We can’t wait to meet you!
