WASHINGTON — Coming off a win on the road, the Wizards are back at the Capital One Arena for their home opener, with the stadium at full capacity for the first time in two years.
This season also marks the 75th anniversary of the NBA.
The team finished last season at 25% capacity, but now they're allowed to fill all 20,000 seats. Multiple COVID protocols are still in place, according to Capital One Arena General Manager, Jordan Silberman.
Silberman said all fans will have to wear a mask when inside the arena, unless they're actively eating or drinking, which falls in line with D.C.'s indoor mask mandate. Several new signs are posted throughout the arena to remind patrons.
He said staff will also have some masks available for those who need them.
Silberman said fans sitting within 15 feet of the court are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.
Concession stands are also cashless for added safety.
The team is also hosting multiple fan events ahead of the game.
Starting at 5 p.m., the Capital One Fan Van will be parked outside the arena. It will have Wizards apparel, prizes, and a "Hoops Drop" plinko board.
At 5:30 p.m., G-Wiz, the Wizards Dancers and others with the team will be taking over the Gallery Place-Chinatown WMATA station. Then, when doors open at 6 p.m., the first 10,000 fans who show up will receive a free rally towel and mousepad.
Metro delays are still expected, so plan for alternate transportation routes or extra time.
Limited tickets are still available for the home opener; Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
