Spirit fall short, in 1-0 loss to Orlando

The match aired on WUSA9 on Saturday.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Eyes were peeled and fingers are crossed ahead of what D.C. fans hoped would be a spirited match against Orlando Pride for the National Women's Soccer League championship.

Sadly, for fans of the D.C. juggernaut, the team fell short of winning the championship this year, losing to the Pride 1-0.

Metrobar in Northeast D.C. was the official destination for fans looking to watch the big game on Saturday.

"It's gonna be hard not to get emotional, I grew up playing soccer," Metrobar's manager said on Saturday. "So it's awesome to see girls grow up in a world where women's sports is a big deal, especially soccer."

The two played for the National Women's Soccer League championship title at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City. The Spirit advanced to the final on a penalty shootout with a 1-1 draw against defending champions Gotham FC.

This year would have been the team's second championship win after a championship victory against the Chicago Red Stars in 2021.

The match aired on WUSA9 on Saturday.
