Va.'s Earl Lloyd, first black man in the NBA, dies at 86

Earl Lloyd, the first African-American to play in the NBA is being honored to celebrate black history month at the game against the Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat on February 12, 2012 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The first black man to play in the NBA has died.

The 86-year-old was from Alexandria, Va. and played his basketball at West Virginia State College. He led his college team to a pair of CIAA conference championships.

Lloyd was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
