POTOMAC, Md. (WUSA 9) -- The St. Andrew's boys' basketball team is off to one of the best starts in school history thanks in part to its 6-foot-8 center, George Muresan.

At 16-years-old, the junior is nearly 7 feet tall and he's probably not finished growing.

George remembers when he first got the basketball bug.

"It was a really close high school game and someone sunk a deep three and then they won the game. I was like: I want to do that one day."

While he hasn't scored a three-pointer to win a game yet, George dunks with ease.

Lions point guard Austin Allen says George is passionate, energetic and vocal on the court -- and of course -- great at rebounding.

How could he not be? It's in his genes. George is the son of former Bullets center, 7-foot-7, Gheorghe Muresan.

"I see him every day, he's not that different from anyone else," said George of his father.

Dad, son and the rest of the Romanian family spend time at home watching and talking basketball. Gheorghe Muresan said he is proud of his son and loves watching him play basketball.

"I'm a very big fan of him and of his team too," said Muresan, whose passion and work ethic have transferred to his son.

The younger hoops fanatic would wake up his dad every morning before the season started so they could practice together on the St. Andrew's court.

"We'd practice before school, he would just teach me everything," said George.

Both men agree the extra work improved his post play. But if you think the six-year NBA veteran -- four with the Washington Bullets/Wizards -- is a pushy parent, think again.

"Being a parent, having a kid playing basketball, he's very hands off," said Lions Head Coach Kevin Jones. "He's not coming into our practices. He's not trying to telling us how to coach."

The Wizards ambassador just enjoys watching the St Andrew's Lions, partially because he thinks they have a pretty good center.

The younger George, who has a 3.5 GPA wants to study forensic pathology in college. The Muresans' love for basketball is also shared by George's younger brother Victor. The 6-foot-1 eighth grader also plays hoops.
