PARIS, France — LeBron James and the U.S. men's basketball team will be leaving Paris with gold medal and some extra money to go with the win.
While U.S. athletes aren't specifically paid to compete at the Olympics, the U.S. is one of the countries that provides bonuses for winning medals.
In Tokyo, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee gave out $37,500 for each gold medal, $22,500 for each silver medal and $15,000 for each bronze medal earned at the Games. Those numbers vary from country to country, and not every country awards bonuses to medal winners.
Based off those numbers, James, along with his teammates including Steph Curry and Anthony Edwards, will each reportedly earn a $37,500 bonus for winning the gold medal.
That amount pales in comparison to the two-year, $104 million deal James signed ahead of the Olympics to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.
In comparison to other U.S. Olympians, Simone Biles is believed to be earning a $135,000 bonus for winning her three gold medals and one silver medal in Paris, and sprinting star Sha'Carri Richardson will earn more than $60,000.

When Olympians receive their medals at the Paris Olympics, they're also handed a long box. So, what's in the box?
According to organizers, inside the box is an official Paris Olympics poster. The poster, designed by French artist Ugo Gattoni, features an intricate color illustration of the Games with representations of each sport.
The top-placing athletes also get a little extra gift behind the scenes after the medal ceremony is over. Each medalist receives a small, stuffed gold, silver or bronze medal-winning mascot, with the emblem of the medal they won sewn onto the mascot's belly.
