D.C. sports broadcasters team up during coronavirus outbreak

D.C. sports broadcasters are working to raise money to help local food banks.

WASHINGTON — The most recognizable voices in D.C. sports are working to help the community during the COVID-19 outbreak.

14 local sports broadcasters created the initiative Voices of D.C. Sports: Helping to Feed the City.

Broadcasters affiliated with the Redskins, Capitals, Nationals, Wizards, and D.C. United are taking part in the program.

The initiative will raise money through public donations.

Fans can request video messages from the sports broadcasters using Cameo. After a donation of at least $25, the broadcaster of your choice will record a personalized message.

Fans can also donate by texting DCSPORTS to 44321.

The charities that will benefit from the initiative are: DC Central Kitchen, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Martha’s Table.

For Capitals radio play-by-play announcer John Walton, it’s all about helping those who need it most.

“We want to raise money to help the least among us in Washington,” says Walton in a video post on Twitter. “We are all in this together.”
