Alex Ovechkin sets new career record

He is also the 12th fastest person in NHL history to reach the 1,500 point mark.

WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin scores big, setting a new career record.

The Washington Capitals forward had an assist on Dylan Strome’s goal at Thursday’s home game against the Dallas Star. The goal marked his 1,500th career point. Ovechkin is the 16th player in NHL history and the second active player to reach the 1,500-point mark.

Ovechkin has scored 827 goals, had 673 assists, and played in 1,370 games to reach this momentous feat. He is also the 12th fastest person in NHL history to reach the 1,500-point mark. Ove was selected as the #1 pick back in 2004 by the Capitals and he’s been with the team since.

The forward has only 15 points in 23 games this season. Before Thursday night’s game, Ovechkin hadn’t scored a single goal in seven straight games.

Despite reaching such a big achievement, the Russian native wasn’t able to prevent the Capitals from losing. The team lost 5-to-4 to the Dallas Stars in a shootout. This marks the third straight game the Caps have lost.
