ARLINGTON, Va. — Heads up Washington fans, the Capitals have recalled goalie Clay Stevenson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL). President Brian MacLellan made the announcement on Monday after current goalie Charlie Lindgren got injured during a pregame skate.
In addition, MacLellan says the team has placed defenseman Joel Edmundson on Long-Term Injured Reserve.
Officials say Stevenson, 24, has posted a record of 1-1-0 with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in two games with Hershey this season. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound goaltender appeared in 36 games for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) last season.
Stevenson also ranked second among ECHL goaltenders in goals-against average, tied for fifth in shutouts and seventh in save percentage. Additionally, Stevenson posted a 2-1-2 record with a 2.11 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage in five Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Following his sophomore season at Dartmouth (NCAA), the Capitals signed Stevenson to a two-year entry-level contract on March 28, 2022. Stevenson earned six of Dartmouth’s seven wins during the 2021-22 season.
He will wear the number 33 with the Capitals.
