How ignoring his homework almost made NFL dreams fade away for Washington Commanders Antonio Gibson

Gibson says his NFL dreams almost faded because he wasn't doing the work in school.

WASHINGTON — Antonio Gibson is enjoying his fourth season with the Washington Commanders

Against Seattle, Gibson as running back is actually a triple-threat player. He can run, he can catch and he can return kicks. He returned the opening kick against Seattle for 33 yards, but it could have, and according to him should have, gone for more.

"That first one, if I didn't slip, I owe them one big time, if I didn't slip, I probably take that to the house," Gibson said.

As he grows in the offense, so does his young quarterback Sam Howell.

"I hope he don't mind me saying this, but picking up pressure, knowing where the pressure is coming from, like him moving away in the pocket away from pressure, that was something he kind of struggled at the first couple of weeks. If you see him now, he's so comfortable, he knows where it's coming from," Gibson said.

A 2020 third-round pick of the franchise out of Memphis, he began his college career at a Georgia community college, where his NFL dreams almost faded because he wasn't doing the work in school.

"I can be honest and say it kind of faded a little bit," Gibson said. "My first and second year in high school was just, I did not take it seriously. So, just take care of important things early and then at the back end it'll be worth it."
