ASHBURN, Va. — Commanders rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes has had some rough spots in his young NFL career. He was benched earlier this season, and continues to struggle.
Hall-of-Fame cornerback Darrell Green was at Sunday's game. WUSA9 spoke to him about Forbes, and he said he has been a topic of conversation.
"I have had conversations about him, not with him, but about him and looked at him," Green said. "Truthfully, I could help him in 10 minutes."
Green played 20 seasons in the NFL with Washington's football franchise from 1982 to 2002. He's a two-time Super Bowl Champion, four-time first-team All Pro, and was invited to the Pro Bowl seven times in his career. He was also named an NFL Man of the Year in 1996.
"I'm going to cross a line that I've been known to cross. He's not getting the help he should get," Green said before Sunday's game. "That's all I'm going to say about that."
Green said despite Forbes' struggles, he has been impressed with him.
"I don't know him, but they say he's such a smart kid," he said. "He's a little peanut Darrell Green from the South."
Green was spotted talking to Forbes on the sidelines at halftime on Sunday.
"He was just telling me to keep my head up, keep moving forward and just keep getting better each day," Forbes said of their brief chat.
Forbes said he's always willing to take advice.
"It will help my game and hopefully when I talk to him, whenever that may be, he'll be able to give me a few pointers," Forbes said.
Coming up, the Commanders and Patriots meet for the first time since 2019 when New England hosts Washington. The Patriots have won the past four meetings. Washington’s most recent win against New England came in 2003.
