ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders held their final practice before they head off to New Jersey Wednesday. On Thursday, they will hit someone other than a body in burgundy and gold when they play a joint practice with the New York Jets.
Head coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday that some players will get more playing time during practice, while others will get more during the first preseason game on Saturday. It's all part of player evaluation, Quinn said.
He knows how monumental it will be for some of the rookies who will be realizing a boyhood dream of playing in the NFL, but this may be the end of it.
During practice Tuesday, two Washington legends and Pro Football Hall of Famers were invited to speak with the team. Former head coach Joe Gibbs, who won two Super Bowls with the franchise, and Darrell Green, who spent a record 20 seasons with Washington, were both on hand.
Green said after watching and meeting the team that he was a true believer that the franchise was headed in the right direction. He also expressed to the players that that he had another obligation — to the fan base, especially the young kids.
Green brought 200 underserved kids from the DMV to watch practice.
