WUSA9 EXCLUSIVE | Chick Hernandez sits down for one-on-one with new Commanders GM Adam Peters

Just one day after signing his contract, Peters sat down with WUSA9 Chick Hernandez for an exclusive one-on-one interview.

WASHINGTON — Washington Commanders General Manager Adam Peters is charged with finding the 31st head coach in franchise history, joining forces, and turning around a team that hasn't won a playoff game since the 2005 season.

Peters signed his five-year contract with the Commanders on Monday. He held his first press conference with Commanders Majority Owner Josh Harris on Tuesday.

Just one day after signing his contract, Peters sat down with WUSA9 Chick Hernandez for an exclusive one-on-one interview.

With his skill and knowledge, Peters was one of the most sought-after front-office men in the league. Other teams interested in him for their general manager vacancies included the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers. When it came to the Commanders, he said the job was just too attractive to pass up.

"We have a ton of draft capital. We have cap space, and we have an ownership that is committed to winning," Peters explained. "So it's for a person like me in my position I've been very lucky to have some opportunities."

One of the limited partners in the Commanders ownership group is a man everyone knows as NBA Superstar Magic Johnson. Meeting a basketball legend made for an interesting interview for Peters.

"First, I'm starstruck," he said. "You know, Magic is the best point guard of all time. Not to mention an incredible human being and an incredible businessman."

Over the next several days Peters will search for a new head coach and get his staff ready for April's NFL draft. For now, he has a message for the fans:

“We're ready," he said. "We're ready to turn this thing around. We're ready to build a great franchise, a great organization. We have all the resources. We're going to get a great coach, and we're going to turn this thing in and into what people are going to be proud of. And I'm going to be fired up and I'm going to be all in. I am not going to stop until we do that.”
