(WUSA) -- What a way to make a return to the bid dance. Maryland is in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010. Instead of being a 3 seed, the Terrapins are a 4 seed in Kentucky's region, arguably the most difficult region in the tournament.
The Terps, in their first season in the Big Ten, are 27-6 (14-4) and were eliminated in the Big Ten conference tournament semifinals. The Terrapins were led by freshman guard Melo Trimble, who led the team in scoring and assists. Dez Wells is averaging just over 15 points per game this season.
Maryland will face 13-seed Valparaiso, winners of the Horizon league, at 4:40 Friday in Columbus. That game can be seen on TNT.
