WASHINGTON — D.C. native and Grammy-nominated rapper will perform during halftime of the Washington Football Team's Monday night game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 29.
It's part of the NFL's Inspire Change initiative, but there were some mixed reactions to the Washington Football Team's announcement. One of the songs Wale will perform is called "Sue Me."
That's not sitting well with a few of the women involved in the NFL's investigation into Washington's toxic work culture. They say they plan to protest before Monday's game.
"I was just sort of taken aback by the name of the song," said Melanie Coburn. "To see a song called 'Sue Me' being announced as the halftime performance for the inspire change game was a little tone deaf in my opinion."
Megan Imbert said she thinks it would be appropriate for Wale to pick a different song.
"He has an opportunity here to have a bigger name and a bigger voice being a part of this movement as well," Imbert said.
We reached out to Wale's representatives for comment and have not heard back. When his performance was announced, Wale offered a statement.
"I am honored to play for my home team on such an important night -- Monday Night Football and Inspire Change -- with such a needed message about supporting the Black community," he said. "I am dedicating this performance to the Black community of the DMV."
The Washington Football Team echoed that sentiment and said Wale and his team picked the song because of its uplifting message to the Black community.
