Larsen leads George Washington over Lafayette 85-76

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kevin Larsen scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and George Washington beat Lafayette 85-76 on Friday night in a season opener.

Tyler Cavanaugh, who sat out last season after transferring from Wake Forest, debuted as a Colonial with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Patricio Garino added another 17 points.

Nick Lindner led the Leopards with 27 points. Monty Boykins added 13 and Matt Klinewski 12.

The Colonials built a 50-28 halftime lead by shooting 48.5 percent to Lafayette's 26.7. The Leopards made a bit of a run before a 7-0 run extended George Washington's advantage to 59-35. The Colonials repelled a few more Lafayette surges, not letting the Leopards get closer than 10.

There were 73 free throws taken with George Washington hitting 29 of 40, including 10 of 13 by Larsen, and Lafayette 29 of 33, including 10 of 13 by Lindner.
