MCLEAN, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Langley's Sarah Roemer hit the court with her teammates on Friday night hungry for a victory. Less than a minute into the Saxons' game against Yorktown, guard Jacquelyn Hulett rebounded the ball and found Roemer in the paint.
The senior, who had been out due to an ankle injury, scored her first points of the season. She also set the pace for the Lady Saxons to finish their regular season with a win on Senior Night.
Yorktown kept pace with Langley most of the game and out-scored the Saxons in the second quarter. At the half, Langley led 25-19. Patriots guard Kate Rita, who finished the match-up with 18 points, sunk four three-pointers in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to give Yorktown the lead. The Saxons won it 54-44 with junior guard Paige Galiani leading her team in scoring with 22 points.
After the game, the school honored its seniors -- Roemer, Hulett, Brittony Trumbull and Lauren Meyer -- by announcing the students' plans for the future.
"The four seniors that played this evening are my first four all the way through," said Saxons Head Coach Amanda Baker. "I met them as freshman, and we kind of grew up together, so it was really rewarding to have them win on this big night. All of them scored and played so well and I know their teammates were really proud of them."
Langley, now 18-3, will advance to the first round of districts on Tuesday.
"We haven't won the first round of districts in a while," said Meyer. "I think that's going to motivate us to win."
