OLNEY, Md. — Our high school football game of the week took us to a big matchup between two powerhouse programs. Our Lady of Good Counsel entered the game with a 7-1 record on the season. St. John's College High School entered the matchup with a 5-3 record.
These two teams have been going to head-to-head for decades, with the Cadets winning eight of the last nine meetings.
Last year, these schools met in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship game. St. John's finished its season with a perfect 11-0 record with a 34-21 overall win for the title. But this season, Good Counsel has found its rhythm and is rolling over its competition.
Andy Stefanelli is in his sixth season as head coach of the Falcons. Led by junior running back, Dilin Jones, who has 20 NCAA D-1 offers on the table, the Falcons rushing attack proved tough to stop. Good Counsel came out strong against St. John's and led 10-0 at the half thanks to a Jones touchdown.
Good Counsel would go on to win, 24-0. The Falcons improve to 8-1 on the season.
