The Commanders return to practice after their first preseason game

After getting their first taste of live football action, the Commanders got back to the practice field in Ashburn on Monday.

ASHBURN, Va. — Monday’s Commanders practice was a light one by their standards. It didn’t go much past an hour in the coolest temperatures of training camp.

Like last week, the team will practice on Monday and Tuesday and travel on Wednesday, this time to Miami. Thursday is a joint practice with the Dolphins and then Saturday night on WUSA9 a 7 p.m. they will kickoff against the Fins.

Meanwhile, on Monday backup QB Sam Hartman had a slight shoulder injury. He missed practice Monday and if he's not back in time for the joint practice Thursday, he won’t play in the game Saturday. The same goes for tackle Brandon Coleman, who is also nursing a shoulder injury. Additionally, the team is waiting for a test on the knee of linebacker Jordan Magee, while head coach Dan Quinn is hoping for the best.

There are a few bright spots for Washington after the preseason opener against the Jets, including QB Jaden Daniels. He played just the opening series, led the team on an 11-play scoring drive with a big pass to Dyami Brown, and then took it in himself for the score untouched.

Rookie right tight end Ben Sinnott also shined, with three catches for 57 yards, including a big one for 44 yards, the last 12 of which was all him. They call it YAC, yards after contact, of which he had 12 of them on one play.

“I try to pride myself on my physicality after the catch stuff, something you can’t show in practice,” Sinnott said.

His teammate Terry McLaurin was impressed.

“For a guy to play his first NFL snaps, and you can see how natural he is with the ball in his hands… that’s a great start.”

For his head coach who helped select him in the 2nd round out of Kansas St.,  it was a good sign.

"Did you see what you saw then, come to life now.”

Commanders practiced early afternoon for the first time all camp Monday. They return to the 9 a.m. start on Tuesday.
