WASHINGTON — A young D.C. native is up for one of college football's highest awards.
Caleb Williams, a 2021 graduate of Gonzaga College High School was recently named as a finalist for the 2022 Heisman Trophy, as a sophomore at the University of Southern California (USC). His fellow quarterback contenders are Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, TCU quarterback Max Duggan and Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett.
Williams is currently a Quarterback on USC's football team and is a recent transfer student from Oklahoma, according to his bio on USC's athletic website. While a student at Gonzaga College High, Williams was ranked as the number-one player by SI-All American in the U.S. his senior year.
Williams set a single-season record in 2022 with a total of 4,447 total offensive yards.
If Williams wins this year's Heisman, he'll join seven USC alumni that have previously received the award, including O.J. Simpson in 1968. Only two USC quarterbacks have won the award: Carson Palmer in 2002 and Matt Leinart in 2004.
The winner will be announced on Dec. 10 in New York City.
