Christmas has come to town | Most DC Thing

Two annual events happened in the District--kicking off the Christmas season.

WASHINGTON — For today’s Most DC Thing we’re highlighting a couple of recent events that let us know Christmas has come to town.

First, the Christmas season got its official kickoff in the District last night during the National Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event, featuring performances from various artists, was closed to the public this year due to virus restrictions but will be available via on-demand streaming starting Dec 3.

With the show being low-key this year, the street closures that come with it weren’t as numerous as they usually are, so evening commuters received an early gift.

The other yearly happening is the unveiling of the White House Christmas décor. A video posted to First Lady Melania Trump's Twitter feed gives a virtual look at the "People’s house," showing off the decorations based around an “America The Beautiful” theme.

For someone who reportedly doesn’t care too much for “Christmas stuff and decorations,” First Lady Melania Trump did a wonderful job with them. Decking the halls beautifully. This being her last set of Christmas decorations, she’s going out nicely.
