It's seems like the ball just dropped, rescuing us from the nightmare known as 2016. Yet, it's that time of year where we start looking back on the previous year and start planning for the next year to come.
That's right, 2017 is coming to a close and we're just weeks away from 2018.
Before we kick start our New Year with our "new year, new me" resolutions, let's take a look back at some of the weirdest stories of 2017.
We all like to enjoy a burger and fries every once in a while, but this guy took his order a little too seriously. It happened in September at a McDonald's in Chantilly, Va. Kyle Harris walked into McDonald's with two friends and ordered food. When his order wasn't ready fast enough, Harris threatened to kill the workers and and lifted up his shirt to show a gun in his waistband. Thankfully, no one was hurt and Harris was arrested a short time later.
This opossum likes her bourbon neat and doesn't have trouble throwing back the entire bottle. In December, a female opossum broke into a Florida liquor store and drank an entire bottle of bourbon. Yes, you read that correctly. She drank the ENTIRE bottle. At least, that's the conclusion the owner of the liquor store came to. The opossum was up in the rafters of the store. When she came through, she knocked over a bottle of bourbon, breaking it. When she got on the floor, she drank it. When the staff found her, she was disoriented and pale. She sobered up at a wild life rescue and thankfully, she didn't have a hangover.
This one is gross, absurd and a little unbelievable. Back in September, a Colorado family appeared to be taunted by a jogger who was defecating on their neighborhood sidewalks. Yes, a mystery woman was jogging in a Colorado neighborhood and popping in public. The family started calling her "The Mad Popper." The worst part is no one can figure out the woman's motives. Police obtained a picture of the woman in hopes of identifying her. Last time we checked, the identity of the "Mad Popper" remains a mystery.
In February, a woman's warning about a flannel shirt she found wrapped around her windshield wiper went viral. It happened after Ashley Hardacre spotted a piece of bunched-up clothing sitting on her windshield. She didn't get out of her car to remove, because she felt uneasy. She told police a car was still running near her car and her mother warned her about potential tricks people could use to lure women out of their cars. She used the experience to encourage others in similar situations to follow her example.
And the weirdest story to come out of 2017 is...
Drum roll...
That's right, people are actually marrying themselves. We were introduced to the term sologamy in May when 37-year-old Erika Anderson shared her story about marrying herself. And yes, it's actually a thing. Anderson said she grew tired of people asking why she was still single. So, in front of family and friends she married herself. The truth is, sologamy is growing. Now, the movement has gone global and companies are trying to capitalize. Anderson married herself to celebrate independence and believes others should, too.
