BELTSVILLE, Md. — A driver lost her life and three others were injured in a violent, fiery crash in Beltsville early Saturday morning.
According to Maryland State Police, troopers were called to a four-vehicle crash on northbound I-95 south of MD 212 and Powder Mill Rd. around 4:15 a.m.
Police said the unidentified woman driving a Honda Civic struck a Mitsubishi Gallant, driven by 31-year-old Keith Hingle, of Beltsville head-on.
The Honda then ricocheted and collided with a BMW 325, causing the driver, Olayanju T. Kayode, 35, of Laurel, to be partially thrown through the windshield.
Both vehicles crashed into a Lexus RX350, driven by Earl L. Ross Jr., 46, of Mechanicsville. The Honda finally came to rest in the right shoulder where it caught fire. Kayode and Ross were transported to a local hospital following the crash.
Officials said the driver of the Honda was trapped inside the car when it came to rest in the right shoulder and caught fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Prince George's County Fire and EMS personnel who also responded to the scene.
Several lanes of northbound I-95 were shut down for several hours while investigators reconstructed the incident. All lanes reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
