WASHINGTON — The Total Solar Eclipse is right around the corner. A celestial event we won’t experience in the United States again for two whole decades.
With so many people eager to get a glimpse of this eclipse, WUSA9 wants to remind DMV residents how unsafe it is to look at the eclipse without the proper safety eyewear. Our area is not within the path of totality, so solar eclipse glasses or a solar eclipse viewer is essential to look at the eclipse.
The D.C. Public Library tweeted out a few libraries that still had solar eclipse glasses available in the region. We reached out to these libraries to confirm their stock and as of Friday afternoon:
- Bellevue Library still has 40 pairs available and will give out four per family.
- Francis A. Gregory Library still has 20 pairs.
- Northwest One Library said they had a handful.
- Georgetown Neighborhood Library also has a handful and will be distributing one pair per family.
Distribution of the glasses will run through Monday, April 8. Residents are advised to call ahead as the numbers are changing daily.
