WASHINGTON — Crews rescued a maintenance worker stuck on a D.C. Police Department radio tower.
D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the District 4 police tower on Georgia Avenue in Northwest, D.C. and worked to safely rescue the man.
While working way up there, officials said the man suffered an apparent case of hypothermia.
The worker had all of his safety equipment attached but was unable to come down on his own, officials said.
The worker told other crew members he was simply too cold to make it down on his own.
DC fire fighters arrived with a ladder that reached 100 feet, but the man was 120 feet up the tower. To rescue the worker, crews rigged a harness to bridge the gap.
It took about three hours to successfully rescue the worker.
The worker was evaluated by EMS and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
