CLARKE COUNTY, Va. — A West Virginia man was arrested and charged in the murder of a Loudoun County man, Virginia State Police said.
Police arrested Dale Lee Wright, 50, of Charles Town, W.Va. and charged him in the death of Jeffrey B. Evans, 72, of Bluemont, Va.
Authorities said Wright and Evans met in a lot on Castleman Road around 11 a.m. on Sunday for a pre-arranged business transaction. The two ended up getting into an altercation and Wright pulled a gun out and shot Evans.
According to a police report, Evans tried to drive away but ended up crashing at the intersection of Castleman Road and Route 7. Witnesses told police Wright ran over to Evans' pickup truck after the crash and then fled the scene.
Police said Evans died at the scene and his remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for examination and autopsy.
Officials later arrested Wright and charged him 1st degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Wright will appear in Clarke County upon pending extradition from West Virginia, police said.
The West Virginia State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Clarke County Sheriff's Office have been assisting VSP with the investigation.
Police are still investigating the homicide, no further details are available at this time.
