CLARKE COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police have launched a death investigation after responding to what initially appeared to be a traffic crash in Clarke County.
Police said they were originally called to a traffic crash on Route 7 and Harry Byrd Highway around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When authorities arrived, they found a gray Chevrolet pickup truck that ran off the highway near Castleman Road and crashed into a tree.
Investigators later said the driver was pronounced dead and was suffering from wounds "inconsistent with a traffic crash." Police said the driver was the only person in the truck at the time of the accident.
Authorities said the man's remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas an autopsy.
No further details have been released at this time.
