(WLTX) -- A scam is going around where cyber criminals are telling mobile customers to open a link to fix a breach of security on their phone, according to the Newberry County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say customers of Verizon Wireless are receiving text messages telling them to open a link to correct a security breach. We are told it is more than likely a phishing method that allows the sender to retrieve data from customers.
Deputies also say that similar scams have been occurring using bank names. Officials say to never open a link on your phone or computer that looks suspicious. Always be sure to verify the authenticity of links.
